Wednesday

After breakfast we have a full day excursion to explore Edinburgh, the inspiring capital of Scotland. Centuries of history meet a vibrant, cosmopolitan city where you can discover stunning scenery and striking architecture. 'Edinburgh's Christmas' takes place over multiple sites in the town centre. St Andrew Square features the Scottish Market, a winter showcase of some of the best craft, food and drink that Scotland has to offer. East Princes Street Gardens hosts the Big Wheel, a stunning ice rink and carousel, and the traditional European market. A packed lunch will be provided. We return to the Winnock for 'Christmas Day' dinner.

Thursday

Today we're off to Callander, the gateway to the Highlands. The bustling town lies immediately south of the Highland Boundary Fault which was historically a meeting point between the Highlands and the Lowlands. Here the fertile plains come to an end and the mountains begin. For many visitors the 'real' Scotland starts here. The main street is home to a wide selection of teashops and souvenir shops. Callander gained fame as the location for the original Doctor Finlay's Casebook TV series. We then travel on the Stirling. Many of the first visitors to Stirling were in fact invaders due to its position as a crossing point of the River Forth. The Old Town is like a walk through history with the Church of the Holy Rude, mansions, town walls and the Castle, which is second only to Edinburgh. Stirling is compact and pedestrian-friendly and you can choose to shop in the hundred stores of the modern Thistles Shopping Centre or the Victorian ambience of the Crawford Arcade. Again a packed lunch will be provided. We return to the hotel for a traditional Scottish dinner and show to celebrate Hogmanay.
